Final Fantasy

I’m kind of a sucker for pseudo-classical piano songs. I liked some of those Tori Amos albums and I also kind of dig the harpsichord (does that make me gay?). Anyways, Final Fantasy is this guy Owen Pallet from Canada who plays his violin into loop pedals and all that - pretty cool stuff. I hear he also does some great covers from time to time, like Mariah Carey, Bloc Party and Joanna Newsom.

Modest Mouse

The new Modest Mouse album is actually pretty good. The last one was a little too pop for me, but I just couldn’t put my finger on what was pop about it. I kept losing arguments because I couldn’t back my case up. Luckily the new album is sort of a cross between the old albums and the most recent one. That means that (A) I like it a lot and (B) I don’t have to have that argument anymore.

Arcade Fire

I feel sort of weird about Arcade Fire. They are really great, but sometimes the songs seem to all blend together for me. I’ve heard they give a great live show, so maybe that’s something to consider. Anyways, the new album (Neon Bible) took me a couple of listens to make me warm up, but there are definitely some stand out tracks, slow-builders and stuff, that you would want to listen to 10 times in a row. Or like maybe if you were drunk. If you were wasted at a party and dancing or something, you would want to hear these all night.
