More of those dug up summer thumpers. Man, I don’t even know where to start. You have the song that basically got 50 Cent shot up and is really fucking funny. Classic Biggie storytelling over the simplest beat that you’ll be humming all day. The best part of the Biggie track is that when he finishes his verse, he then proceeds to tell the story again in it’s entirety while talking to his friends. That always cracked me up. Umm.. what else.. Eve with a tight Dr. Dre production and the nastiest track to ever use a violin starring Trina and Ludacris. Fuck a dime, I’m a silver dolla’ - holla’.

Digging through some old records, I came across some thumpers I can use for this summer. So much goodness in these tracks, but the jewel might be Baby and Clipse’s ‘What Happened to that Boy’. I don’t know why, but the track is just so evil. Every line is a chillin reference to casual violence layed over the most eerie Neptunes beat to date. Still, shit remains poetic.. Like when they call themselves “gorgeous killers” and when they spit “Hit ‘em with the nina man, or the four-fifth garaunteed to lean ya man.. whoa”. Hella sickness. Also in here are Freeway ripping it on the hypest beat from ‘03 or whenever (watch for the Jay-Z guest verse), Pharoah Monch on some EPSN tip and A Kanye/Ludacris/Game track that I first saw as a Boost mobile commercial.

It took me a minute to really start liking American Sneakers. I had heard the song Try Something a while back and liked it a lot, but the rest of the tracks on the newly released album seemed really sing-songy and kind of stale. Lately though, I have been really feeling the album which may or not be a good thing considering the songs are all about cocaine and women. Anyways, the point is now I think the album is decent and deserves a listen. Also, if you buy the picture disc 7″, it has some amazing artwork from Jim Houser, you also get the full length Darts & Daggers AND you get a zine made by Jayson that is maybe one of the funniest things I have ever read. I wish I could find it online to link to, but I guess you have to buy it. The zine alone might be worth the $15.

I heard this song on the radio the other day and then I heard it like 5 more times in a hour. T-Pain is blowing this shit up right now and I’m hooked. For one, I’m at the bar everyday so any song about a bartender is instantly rad. Two, it’s so corny that it becomes a feel good hit. How about when he says, “She poured some drinks, we drunk ‘em, yeah got drunk. Now I know she thinks I’m cool”. What is he like 13?? So awesome..

Took me a couple of listens to get into Beach House since a lot of the songs start out pretty mellow and I’m not the most mellow guy. I have to be in the right scenario to enjoy bands like this. Luckily I have special pills that create that scenario, so I was able to enjoy the fuck out of this band while lying on my bedroom floor for a couple of hours. Alex Scally and Victoria Legrand are based out of Baltimore and play some of the most dreamy, soft songs I have heard in a while. Her voice is sort of mind-blowing and Master of None is the real gem here.

Found this new track from Erykah Badu on the Stones Throw website with production by Madlib (sick). I was wondering the other day what she had been up to and it seems like she has been casually making bangers with great producers.. No big deal. This is taken from the Stones Throw site; “Here’s a track that wasn’t made for any album in particular but was played on the radio this week. When asked when this one was made, Madlib said, “Dunno.”

Harlem Shakes are on tour with Brooklyn pals Tapes Tapes right now (they just played here in SF recently) and are doing really well. More great pop music - sort of that polished garage sound that New York is so good at. Maybe you’ll think it sounds like a million other bands and blends into the background. You’d probably be right, but it just feels so good right now. Is it possible that I’m becoming a pop music junkie, always looking for the next sweet fleeting hook? Someone get me a metal intervention stat.
