Just saw the trailer for the new Wes Anderson movie and it looks really good. If you’ve seen his movies, you know music is really important to him and this one is no exception. He picked The Kinks track ‘This Time Tomorrow’ for the trailer and it was a good choice (not that I need to validate his choices.. I’m just saying). When The Kinks nail it, they really do it right.
I finally heard the new Interpol album today. Sort of disapointed..The whole album seemed to blend together for me without any tracks really standing out. It’s not bad mind you, it’s just not great either. Meh, the best couple of tracks are below.
EDIT: Okay, it took a couple of months of listening, but this album has finally grown on me. I’m not ready to say it’s as good as the others, but it’s not as bad as I said previously. Thanks for making me listen to it again Kyle.
Since the new Kanye album is almost here, he started doing drops to make them push it faster (pretty smart I think). Below are some selected tracks from the mixtape he dropped. Yeah, it’s sort of dated by now but the album isn’t even out yet so at least it’s not old. The first track is all him and the other two either have guest spots or were produced by him.

Dan Deacon has been popping up all over lately and for damn good reason. He and all his Wham City friends have been doing some great stuff in Baltimore, so much so that I feel super lazy everytime I visit their site. His show at Pitchfork was supposedly pretty wild (i.e. had to be shut down early) and besides, how could you not freak out to his music? It’s got the energy of a million Girl Talks and it sounds like an electronic version of Ween. Somehow I missed the last San Francisco show when he played at Bottom of the Hill, but there is another show in September that you can be sure I’ll be at.

LA’s golden children No Age serve up a heavy meal of white fuzz and dark-wave punk. The chunky, driving art-punk of their previous outfit The Wives gives way to a more stark, no-wavey presentation that reminds me more of early Swans (the up-front, doubled up bummer vocals really drive that home). Hammering drum fits and looped guitars burst out of pretty sonic soundscapes and static that treads a thin line between experimental and shoe-gaze. They recenly released an epic series of 5 vinyl releases on 5 different labels (compiled on the “Weirdo Rippers” CD that just came out on the U.K.’s Fat Cat Records) that are a must. Live they are ferocious.

I’m kind of feeling this Clipse remix.. While I was searching for Clipse remixes the other day, I was surprised to see how many people talk shit about them. I mean I know they spit a lot of coke raps and all that, but for real? Have those people that talk shit even heard them? Anyone who can make 2 full albums in that vein and still leave me wanting more is okay in my book. Think about it, they basically figured out how to talk about the same thing over and over (sort of) and keep it souding new. That makes my head spin.

Murky, bluesy DIY goth, great tastes that taste weird together. Green Bay’s Pink Reason topped their highly praised 7″ debut with their awesome “Cleaning The Mirror” (Siltbreeze) 12 inch slab of heroin rock for folkies. Like crying into your whiskey in the middle of summer with Love & Rockets singles spinning on the wrong speed.

I have loved this band for a while now and even though they broke up back in June, I decided I had to post about them because I kept hearing from friends about how they hadn’t heard their songs before. Based out of Vancouver, The Organ wrote some of the saddest, sweetest songs you have ever heard. Singer Katie Sketch’s voice is like few singers out there and while I talk about female vocalists a lot on this blog, hers is up there on the top of my list. As well, their album Grab That Gun is one of those rare albums where every track is amazing. No skipping around, just a straight play-through. Anyways, included below are some of the stand out tracks and rare-ish single that I have only seen few places before.
