You know how you dig through your records and find stuff you forgot you had? Why do I even buy records that I don’t play for that long? Where do I get the money for all this anyway.. jesus! Whatever, the point is that I found this Seeds record the other day and I have been playing this song non-stop for about 3 weeks now. I’m going to dj on Friday and play it out for the first time, we’ll see how it goes. Maybe I’ll even play it 2 or 3 times depending on how drunk I am.

I grabbed this Diplo remix of Spank Rock’s ‘Put That Pussy On Me’ from the consistently great music blog Gorilla Vs. Bear. Diplo sampled the same song and flipped it kind of crazy.

I was going to write something about Tokyo Police Club, but I decided against it. Maybe you’ll like them.. This song is okay but sounds like a million other bands and is super ‘radio ready’ (is that snobby of me to say?).

Sorry if the site has been sleepy lately.. I went to New York for a couple of weeks and haven’t really been near a computer. Hopefully I should be able to get some new posts up soon and in the meantime Mark can post rad stuff like the one below.

Summer is ending and the August heat is making me think of the groovy soft rock hits of the early 70’s. Beginning in the late 60’s, Vancouver BC’s husband and wife team of Susan Pesklevits and Terry Jacks started releasing a string of singles under the name the Poppy Family. Their psych-tinged, bubblegum pop landed on the much softer side of the typical Summer Of Love fair, and would eventually trade out the sitars for the synth-flutes and lap-steel that became a staple of A.M. radio in the early 70’s. Their later output reminds me of driving around in the station wagon listening to the stuff my parents had on 8-track when I was really little. These records are pretty hard to find, but the “A Good Thing Lost: 1963-1973″ greatest hits collection which is still available.

Ok.. so when I was 12 or something I remember going to my friend’s house and watching Santa Cruz’s Wheels Of Fire video. I didn’t skate so I couldn’t have cared less about the video but the opening montage had this song that blew my fucking mind (yeah, at 12). Then I stopped being friends with that kid and since I didn’t skate and the internet didn’t exist, my chances of finding that song slipped to zero. Basically, I have been looking for this song pretty much my whole life. For a while, I thought it was The Dead Kennedys but that never panned out. For some reason the thought never occured to look on YouTube until now.

The song was ‘What’s So Strange About Me’ by Eight Dayz who was a German band from back in the day and they were used a bunch in the early videos for a bunch of classic Natas and Christian Hosoi parts. Maybe if you skate this is a no-brainer, but for me it was a challenge. Apparently the record is super hard to find now which means the next 15 years of my life will be spent looking for the LP.

Newish single from The Go! Team’s new album. I heard a bunch of songs off the new album and it’s pretty awesome. I don’t know if it matches the first one or not, but that bar was set pretty high so that would be tough either way. On the first album, they said ‘fuck it’ and used a million illegal samples. Now that they are on Subpop, I don’t think that’s allowed anymore. Anyways, you can decide..
