There were huge fires in the Salinas area (I think there still are) and when we drove through the farmlands the sky was a really eerie grey/red color. When we finally saw the sun and it was blood red and we started to get freaked out when we realized it was also Friday the 13th. Swear to god, I thought the apocalypse was starting (2012 for reals).
While I went to the bar to angrily demand more drinks, Evelyn told the waiter it was our anniversary so that we could get a free desert. Girls are always the best at lying.
This was a surfing competition we went to the beach to check out, but it was like 50 degrees out and the waves looked kind of sad. Oops.
We hit this traffic both back and forth from Casa De Frutas and it made me want to kill everyone I saw on the road. I think it was probably 3 hours total.
Here’s the second part of that Central coast trip that I promised before. Went up to Monterey to hang out for a bit and go to the aquarium. Unfortunately due to some poor planning, we ended up at the aquarium on a Saturday (which if you don’t know means hundreds of screaming kids). It was still pretty as ever though and we made the most of the couple of days we had by walking around, eating good food and having a drink on the hour. Our hotel was actually really great and didn’t mind a bit that we snuck up to the roof two nights in a row. The desk clerk also told us that the second floor was haunted by a maintenance man that died in one of the rooms, and that in the 70′s it was the residential hotel of choice for Monterey’s junkies to hang out at. Ended the trip by making a detour to Casa De Frutas for some cherry wine and crickets. Crickets (aka the other green meat) taste like nothing and are actually pretty boring, but are great for grossing out your friends.
